Banded Tube-Dwelling Anemone (Isarachnanthus nocturnus) – Blue Heron Bridge, Riviera Beach, Fl
These anemones hide most of the bodies in a tube, buried in the safety of the sand where they can retract when they feel threatened. The center of this ‘flower’ is the mouth area while the arms extend to grab food and bring it in for digestion. Here, the anemone curls up on itself bringing food captured on the tips of its ‘fingers’ to the central mouth area.
