Yellow Stingray (Urobatis jamaicensis) – Blue Heron Bridge, Riviera Beach, Fl
These little rays are everywhere in South Florida – you can run into them on shore dives, out in the deeper zones, and, of course, under the Blue Heron Bridge. Many of them don’t shy away from divers and allow for some cool photo ops. In this case, I wanted to frame its eye and excurrent port instead of shooting the whole animal (which is only about the size of a dinner plate). Working ‘in tight’ like this requires a steady hand and patience to get the image in focus and framed nicely – a skill set which I am continually trying to practice and hone.
