Bearded Fireworms (Hermodice carunculata) – Blue Heron Bridge, Riviera Beach, FL
This was taken on the first fluorescence dive I ever tried, under the Blue Heron Bridge. Fluorescence photography encompasses so many different challenges that I was struggling to grasp – as the current pulled hard, my bright blue light began to disorienting me, I wasn’t sure if I could even find something to photograph. My fluoro light scanning the inky black darkness soon landed on something in the distance, glowing like Gatsby’s beacon. A pair of bristle worms were slithering over each other and I almost forgot to begin shooting pictures because of the shined so brightly. In the end, this picture sent me off on a fluorescence journey that I am still on.
