Juvenile Gray Triggerfish (Balistes capriscus) – Blue Heron Bridge, Riviera Beach, Fl
Triggerfish can be quite the nuisance to underwater photographers. With a bird-like beak that can chomp through rock, and inhibition to approach anything that moves, Triggerfish can (and will) nip at underwater camera gear and can even snip off a piece of skin (although simply in curiosity, it’s still a painful encounter). Juvenile Triggers are much less brazen and spend the first few years of their life in the shallows, concealed among debris. This young Trigger was spending the night tucked in between some sponges and displayed a vibrant yellow hue, which it will eventually lose as it enters adulthood.
