Blenny Guards Her Eggs

Seaweed Blenny (Parablennius marmoreus) – Blue Heron Bridge, Riviera Beach, Fl

Seaweed Blennies are fun to shoot for a lot of reasons – they have dreadlocks, vibrant paint jobs, aren’t afraid of divers, and often live in accessible areas.  Here, this momma Blenny relaxes in her home which she fashioned out of a barnacle.  Although relaxed, she was watching me very intently.  I did not notice until I reviewed the photo that she was laying among her dozens of eggs (tiny pinkish/clear spheres stuck to the inside of her encampment).  This Blenny has it all, a beautiful home, a future family, and beautiful hair and make-up.  When we went back a few weeks later to check on the eggs’ progress, they were gone, along with momma, hopefully swimming up into the shallows to grow.
