Fireworms are dangerously stunning. Each one of those white whispy patches contains hundreds of bristles that, when needed, protect the worm from predators. When agitated, the worm can release these bristles into the water column, each bristle penetrating fish, or human, skin to inject a powerful neurotoxin which produces intense sting and pain.
